This Love (June 26, 2011)

This Love (http://www.facebook.com/thisloveband OR http://www.purevolume.com/thislove - includes a free download!) is this week's Emerge Music Group's featured band of the week! This great pop rock band (with a little bit of an edge) released their debut EP "The Beginning" last year which shows off their versatility and talent. It starts off sweetly enough with a simple acoustic intro to the album and then kicks into a higher gear with the anthem like "Like A Million Lights."  This EP may only have 6 songs but they are 6 great songs and there is more to come! ("like" them on facebook NOW because they are about to release info on a new album!). Be sure to check out each and every track on the album as each one stands alone as a unique display of what this band is capable of.

Crosby, Skills and Nash (June 19, 2011

This week's featured group is a special side project from Caitlin Crosby and Jay Nash - it is appropriately titled "Crosby, Skills and Nash" and it's truly wonderful!  They have just released a great 4 song EP that brings together country, folk, pop and even Americana.   Check out "Every 10 Seconds" (my personal favorite) and get all 4 songs - it's the best $4 you'll spend on new music this month (if not all summer).  "Like" them on Facebook at: http://www.facebook.com/crosbyskillsandnash

4 FOR 4 FOR GOOD!

Attention bands! In recognition of the 4 Year Anniversary of the Emerge Music Group (which is coming up July 1) we are hoping to do some good by giving away some free music in exchange for donations to Pencils of Promise - a great organization that is helping to provide education in developing nations by building schools.  They have already built over 20 schools in various places in the world.

I'm asking you to donate a song to this cause. The songs will be part of a .zip file that will be emailed to anyone who contributes at least $4 ($4 for 4 year anniversary) to this cause until the end of July (and earlier if we can get it rolling sooner).  To contribute a song just email the .mp3 to emergemusicgroup@gmail.com.  

My goal is to raise at least $400 by asking people to donate at least $4 to Pencils of Promise - this can be done easily online at: http://pop.stayclassy.org/fundraise/pop?fcid=114523.

$4 for 4 years of Emerge to do good - helping provide new schools and educational opportunities to over 60 children. This will be good promotion for the bands involved, for the Pencils of Promise organization and also for the Emerge Music Group.

Michael Tolcher (June 12, 2011)

This week's featured artist, Michael Tolcher, is one of my all time favorites. He has an amazing voice that just can't do wrong. In addition, he writes some of the best lyrics of anyone I've ever listened to. From his early songs ("Sooner or Later", "Mission Responsible") to his latest "Fine" (which is a free download at http://www.michaeltolcher.com/) everything he does is simply incredible. Go give him a listen if you don't already know him!

Tim Blane (June 5, 2011)

Tim Blane (http://timblane.com/ or http://www.facebook.com/TimBlaneBand ) is an outstanding singer-songwriter who has just released an incredible album, "You Can't Go Back." It starts with one of my favorite songs of the year 'Magnetic" which deserved serious radio attention. The album doesn't stop there with more great songs such as "Take 2 or 3" and "Lay It All On Me" which brings a 70s feel to modern pop music. Hannah Winkler (May 29, 2011)

Hannah Winkler (http://www.facebook.com/HannahWinklerMusic) is a wonderful singer songwriter currently based out of Ann Arbor, MI (though I'm lucky enough to have know her since she was a high school student in Washington, DC). Her debut EP, which you can download for free at bandcamp, is outstanding. The opening track "Away From You" starts with a whisper and builds to a perfect crescendo. Her songs grow from simple to complex and all are totally enchanting. This is a great debut that needs to be heard.
